⏰ It’s that time of year again...
As another season of grad & intern applications kick-off, we thought we’d try to make life a little bit easier for students trying to get a sense of what opportunities are out there in tech.
In traditional fields like banking, law & consulting, these programs tend to have transparent opening and close dates, well-documented interview processes and are consistent year after year.
In the tech world, things tend to be a little less…. structured.
How frustrating is it when you realise an awesome company was hiring grads/interns but the listing closed before you found out about it?
You folks mentioned to us that you’d love to see one centralised hub for all the structured grad & internship programs across tech companies in Australia, so we’ve now launched The Earlywork Grad Program & Internship Database.

Ben O’Dea, Co-Founder & CTO @ Negotium
What are you working on? Negotium is an answer to decades of stagnation in the small business valuation space. Business owners cumulatively lose hundreds of millions yearly when their businesses sell for less than what they're really worth. We use big data and AI to replace decades-old spreadsheet models and overly simplistic industry multiple methods with the aim of defining a new gold standard for business appraisals.
How'd you get started? We got started when my co-founder, Edward Johnson's, parents sold their small regional hotel. They sought two valuations before listing, both of which were off by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Wondering how this was acceptable, we got talking to other business owners and realised that such scenarios were shockingly common, and a glaring pain point.
Why do you do what you do? While I know Ed (my co-founder) does what he does because he cares deeply about the problem, I do it because I care about the solution. I love the process of solving complex problems where no existing frameworks exist - there's something exhilarating about just writing your own equations and then seeing them work on real data. The fulfilment lies in building something which is my own; something I can be proud of.
